Magento 2 version upgrades, without the panic.
Upgrading Magento 2 isn't just running a Composer command. Extensions drift, customisations get stranded, themes break in subtle ways. Magento Patches plans the upgrade properly, tests in parallel, and cuts over in a pre-agreed window — so your only experience of it is seeing the new version live.
Who this is for
- Running Magento 2.3.x or 2.4.0–2.4.4 and falling behind on PHP/MySQL support
- Want to move to the latest patch version before peak trading
- Have extensions that vendor support is about to drop
- Failed an Adobe security advisory and need to upgrade urgently
What we'll do
The actual sequence, not a vague promise.
- 01Compatibility audit
Every extension checked against the target version. Every theme override audited. You get a written report on what works, what needs replacing, what'll break.
1–2 days - 02Staging build
New version built in parallel to production. Data migrated, customisations ported, extensions updated or replaced.
3–5 days - 03QA pass
Full regression test covering customer journeys, admin workflows, integrations, and edge cases. Performance benchmarked against current production.
1–2 days - 04Stakeholder walkthrough
You see the staged version, click through what's important to you, sign off before cutover.
1–2 hours - 05Production cutover
Pre-agreed window. Typical downtime 1–2 hours. Rollback path live throughout.
1–2 hours - 0630-day stabilisation
Monitoring active, quick fixes included, performance tuned as real traffic hits the new version.
30 days
What you get
Every engagement starts with a fixed quote. The price doesn't move once we've agreed it — if scope changes mid-project, we agree the variation before any work happens.
Common questions
How long does a typical M2 minor upgrade take?+
Calendar time: 5–10 working days from kickoff to cutover. A clean store with a stock or lightly customised theme starts at £499. A typical store with extensions and theme changes is £999.
What about major upgrades, like 2.3 → 2.4?+
Legacy and major Magento 2 upgrades start at £1,999. PHP version changes, breaking API changes, and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch requirements all add complexity. Scope is confirmed after the compatibility audit.
Can our custom modules survive?+
Mostly yes, but every project finds at least one custom module that needs touching. The compatibility audit catches these up front so there's no surprise in week 3.
Adobe Commerce or Magento Open Source?+
Both are supported. Adobe Commerce upgrades include B2B, MSI and Page Builder considerations. Open Source upgrades are usually faster and cheaper.
